Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4th gen (T1XX) (2019 – 2025)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The 4th generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (T1XX) is one of the pillars of the full-size pickup truck market in North America. Launched in 2019, it received a major facelift in 2022 (often called 'Refresh') that corrected its main flaw: a cabin considered too basic compared to the competition (Ram 1500, Ford F-150), by introducing new screens and higher quality materials. It offers an extremely wide range of engines, from the 4-cylinder turbo to the big 6.2L V8, as well as an excellent inline-6 diesel. Although its chassis is robust, its overall reliability rating is marred by recurring problems with the cylinder deactivation system (AFM/DFM) of its gasoline V8 engines, as well as a significant number of manufacturer recalls.

🎯 Verdict

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (T1XX) is a pickup truck with many faces. If you are looking for a pure utility vehicle, the 2.7L Turbo or the old V6 will do the job. The real jewel of this generation is the 3.0L Duramax Diesel engine, which offers remarkable reliability and unbeatable fuel consumption for the segment. On the other hand, caution is advised with the iconic V8 engines (5.3L and 6.2L): although very pleasant, their cylinder management system (DFM) suffers from documented failures of the hydraulic lifters, leading to very costly repairs. If you opt for a V8, favor a model under warranty or with an impeccable maintenance history (very frequent oil changes). Finally, aim for post-2022 models to benefit from a cabin worthy of the name.
