Chevrolet Silverado 1500 3rd gen (K2XX) (2014 – 2018)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The 3rd generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (K2XX) marked a major evolution for General Motors pickups, introducing much more refined interiors, better soundproofing, and the EcoTec3 family of gasoline engines (direct injection, variable valve timing, AFM cylinder deactivation). Important clarification regarding Diesel: Contrary to the request targeting a diesel engine, the Silverado 1500 (K2XX) was never offered with a diesel engine between 2014 and 2018. 🎯 Verdict

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (2014-2018) is an overall solid pickup, offering excellent comfort and serious work capabilities. However, its reliability record is tarnished by the best-selling engine in the lineup: the 5.3L V8, whose cylinder deactivation system (AFM) causes costly lifter failures. If you are looking for a Diesel: This model is not for you. Look to a Silverado 2500HD (6.6L V8), a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel from the same era, or a next-generation Silverado 1500 (2019+ with the 3.0L Duramax, considered very reliable by ADAC). If you buy this model: Absolutely favor the 6.2L V8 paired with the 6-speed gearbox, a combination considered very reliable. If you opt for a 5.3L, demand a flawless maintenance history and consider electronically deactivating the AFM system to preserve the engine.
