Chevrolet Captiva I (C100) (2006 – 2011)

Reliability score : 6.2/10

The first-generation Chevrolet Captiva (C100) marked General Motors' offensive in the family SUV segment in Europe and worldwide. Developed by GM Daewoo in South Korea, it shares its platform (Theta) with the Opel Antara. Offered in 5 or 7-seater versions, it stood out for its very aggressive price/spaciousness ratio and its American adventurer look. While its spacious cabin and generous equipment are appealing, it suffers from a basic interior finish (hard plastics), sluggish road handling, and a high weight (nearly 1.8 tons) which heavily penalizes fuel consumption, particularly for the gasoline engines covered in this report. A major facelift (C140) would occur in 2011.

✅ Strengths

⚠️ Weaknesses

🎯 Verdict

The Chevrolet Captiva C100 is a rational choice only if you need 7 seats at a ridiculously low price. For gasoline engines, the choice is a difficult compromise: the 2.4L is reliable but anemic and very thirsty, while the 3.2L V6 offers good driving pleasure but suffers from astronomical fuel consumption and a sword of Damocles regarding its timing chain. If you opt for a gasoline version, prioritize a 2.4L with a clear service history and plan for a significant fuel budget (or a conversion to E85 bioethanol if local legislation allows). Avoid diesels if you drive in the city.
