The first (and only) generation Chevrolet Bolt EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle) is the big brother of the Bolt EV. Launched for the 2022 model year, it rests on the same architecture (BEV2 platform, predecessor to GM's Ultium technology) but offers a lengthened wheelbase, resulting in significantly more rear legroom and the look of a small SUV. It also stands out with the introduction of the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system (a first for Chevrolet). Although its production was short-lived (discontinued at the end of 2023 to make way for Ultium models), it represents one of the best value/range propositions on the used market today, provided that the famous recall of its LG Chem battery has been scrupulously carried out.
The Chevrolet Bolt EUV is a paradoxical electric vehicle: its launch was marred by one of the largest battery recalls in automotive history, but once this issue is resolved, it proves to be an extremely reliable, practical, and economical vehicle. According to J.D. Power and Consumer Reports, post-recall reliability is very satisfactory. If you are looking for an affordable electric vehicle for daily use and highway fast charging is not a priority (55 kW limit), it is an excellent choice. Absolute prerequisite for purchase: demand formal proof that the battery recalls (and the 2024 software updates) have been performed by a GM dealer.
