The BYD Seal (Generation I) is a 100% electric family sedan (and plug-in hybrid in certain Asian markets) that positions itself as a direct and formidable rival to the Tesla Model 3. Based on BYD's e-Platform 3.0, it introduces CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology where the LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) 'Blade' battery is an integral part of the chassis structure, significantly increasing torsional rigidity and safety. Featuring a fluid design (Ocean Aesthetics), a very high-level interior finish, and a plethora of standard equipment, it marks the Chinese manufacturer's high-end offensive in Europe. Although long-term hindsight is still limited, BYD's technological mastery (manufacturing its own batteries and semiconductors) inspires confidence. The BYD Seal is an extremely serious and accomplished alternative to the Tesla Model 3. Its major asset lies in its LFP 'Blade' battery integrated into the chassis, guaranteeing exceptional safety and durability. Mechanically and structurally, the car borders on flawless. The only real downsides concern the software (overzealous driving aids) and fast charging power that is decent but nothing more. For a recent used or new purchase, the 313 hp RWD (Design) version is the most rational choice, offering the best range and more than enough power. The AWD version is exhilarating but hungrier for tires and electrons. It is a highly recommended purchase, provided you accept a dealer network still in development in Europe.
