BMW X7 I facelift (G07) (2022 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.2/10

The first-generation BMW X7 (G07) received a major mid-cycle facelift (LCI - Life Cycle Impulse) in 2022 for the 2023 model year. This facelift is distinguished by a controversial front end with split headlights, the integration of the large Curved Display with iDrive 8, and a complete overhaul of its engine lineup. Crucial clarification on hybridization: Unlike the X5, the X7 offers no plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. The entire X7 LCI range relies on mild hybridization (MHEV 48V). The electric motor (12 hp / 200 Nm) is now directly integrated into the 8-speed ZF gearbox, offering imperceptible restarts and an optimized freewheeling mode, but not allowing for prolonged 100% electric driving. This technical choice aims to contain the already colossal weight of the vehicle (over 2.4 tonnes).

🎯 Verdict

The facelifted BMW X7 (G07 LCI) is a luxurious behemoth that shines through the excellence of its engines. The absence of a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version is a deliberate choice by BMW, which preferred to standardize a highly refined 48V mild-hybrid system integrated into the gearbox. The choice of reason and reliability is undoubtedly the xDrive40i. Its B58 engine is an absolute benchmark for longevity. The xDrive40d diesel remains relevant for very high-mileage European drivers, while the M60i's V8 is aimed at wealthy purists. However, the top-tier mechanical reliability is slightly tarnished by complex electronics and a series of recent recalls (notably on the brake-by-wire braking system and the starter). A recent used purchase must imperatively be accompanied by a strict verification that these recalls have been performed at a dealership.
