BMW X7 I (G07) (2018 – 2022)

Reliability score : 7.8/10

The first-generation BMW X7 (G07) (before its late 2022 facelift) is the Bavarian brand's first true luxury 7-seater SUV. Designed primarily for the North American and Asian markets, and assembled in Spartanburg (United States), it is positioned against the Mercedes-Benz GLS and the Range Rover. It stands out for its imperial comfort, top-flight soundproofing, and the excellent standard 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. All versions are equipped with adaptive air suspension. 🎯 Verdict

The BMW X7 is a formidable flagship, offering superior driving pleasure to most of its direct competitors. The xDrive40i (B58) petrol engine is by far the most rational and reliable choice: it offers more than adequate performance while avoiding the financial money pits associated with the V8s (N63) or the complex 4-turbo diesel (M50d). However, the impressive list of official recalls affecting vital components (brakes, steering, starter) and the inherent fragility of air suspensions on a vehicle of this weight require the utmost caution. A used purchase is only recommendable with a crystal-clear history, proof that all recalls have been performed, and ideally an extended warranty.
