BMW X5 G05 (2018 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.5/10

The BMW X5 (G05), launched in late 2018, represents the fourth generation of the famous Bavarian SUV. Based on the modular CLAR platform, it marks a spectacular leap forward in interior finish, comfort (adaptive air suspension), and onboard technologies. Hybrid Focus (PHEV): The X5 G05 has established itself as the absolute benchmark for luxury plug-in hybrid SUVs. The xDrive45e (2019-2023) abandoned the previous generation's 4-cylinder for the masterful B58 inline 6-cylinder, coupled with a large 24 kWh (gross) battery, offering a real-world electric range of 60 to 80 km. During the facelift (LCI) in 2023, it was replaced by the xDrive50e, which boosts combined power to 490 hp and integrates a 29.5 kWh battery, approaching 100 km of WLTP range. Overall, the G05 is an extremely well-design

🎯 Verdict

The BMW X5 G05 is undoubtedly the most accomplished premium SUV of its generation. In its plug-in hybrid versions (xDrive45e and xDrive50e), it borders on perfection, offering the best of both worlds: the refinement and reliability of the B58 inline 6-cylinder, coupled with sufficient electric range for daily use. It is a highly recommended purchase. However, this technological behemoth requires rigorous maintenance. Avoid diesel models that have not undergone the EGR recall, steer clear of the complex M50d outside of warranty, and plan for a substantial budget for consumables (tires, brakes) which suffer under the vehicle's 2.5 tons.
