However, buying a used diesel X5 requires absolute vigilance regarding the EGR cooler recall, which must imperatively have been performed (and sometimes redone) at a dealership. Avoid models without a clear service history, as the xDrive transfer case and air suspension do not forgive negligence. V8 versions (50i) are to be avoided unless you have a very comfortable maintenance budget. In summary: look for a first-owner 30d, with recent star-marked tires, new air springs, and a complete service record.
