The second-generation BMW X3 (F25) marks a major break from its predecessor (E83). Larger, more comfortable, and technologically more advanced, it moved from Austrian assembly (Magna Steyr) to the Spartanburg plant in the United States. It shares many components with the 3 Series F30 and 5 Series F10. A facelift (LCI) occurred in spring 2014, bringing aesthetic updates (headlights joining the grille), an improved interior finish, and, most importantly, the introduction of the new generation of diesel engines (B47) replacing the problematic N47. Although this report focuses on petrol engines, which are highly sought after today due to traffic restrictions, the F25 was predominantly sold with diesel engines in Europe. The petrol units (N20, N52, N55) offer excellent driving pleasure but requ
The BMW X3 F25 is an excellent premium SUV that offers an ideal compromise between dynamism and practicality. However, with the 4-cylinder petrol engine (20i, 28i - N20 engine), it requires extreme caution: only buy a model from before March 2015 if the timing chain and oil pump have been replaced with an invoice. The 6-cylinder petrol engine (35i) is much more refined but requires a significant budget for ancillaries (water pump, seals). If you're looking for peace of mind with a petrol engine, aim for a 2016-2017 20i/28i model. For high-mileage drivers, a post-2014 diesel (B47 or N57 engine) remains a formidable choice, provided the EGR recall has been performed. Finally, never neglect the condition of the tires to preserve the fragile xDrive transfer case.
