BMW X3 F25 (2010 – 2017)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

The BMW X3 (F25 Generation) marks a major qualitative leap compared to its predecessor (E83). More spacious, better finished, and with imperial road handling, it established itself as a benchmark among premium SUVs. The facelift (LCI) introduced in spring 2014 is crucial: it corrects many early defects, improves the finish, and introduces the new generation of diesel engines (B47), replacing the problematic N47. The ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox (optional or standard depending on the version) is a model of driving pleasure. However, its overall reliability is strongly conditioned by the production year and the chosen engine.

🎯 Verdict

The BMW X3 F25 is a two-faced vehicle. Phase 1 models (2010-2014) with 4-cylinder diesel (N47) engines are to be avoided unless the timing chain has been replaced with supporting invoices. In contrast, facelifted versions (LCI, from mid-2014) equipped with the B47 engine or 6-cylinder versions (30d/35d) are excellent choices. Driving pleasure is at the top of the category, but maintenance tolerates no approximations: automatic gearbox fluid change, transfer case fluid change, and strict adherence to tire specifications are imperative to guarantee the vehicle's longevity.
