The BMW 5 Series (G60), launched in late 2023, represents the 8th generation of the famous Bavarian executive sedan (also available as the G61 Touring estate). Based on an evolution of the modular CLAR platform, it has the particularity of being multi-energy: it accommodates internal combustion engines (petrol and diesel with 48V mild hybridisation), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), and 100% electric powertrains (i5). Although the model is very recent, which limits long-term reliability feedback on the onboard electronics (iDrive 8.5, driving aids), the petrol engines (B48 and B58) are technical evolutions (TU2) of existing, extremely reliable blocks. The 5 Series G60 becomes more luxurious, grows in size (over 5 meters), and gains weight, but retains benchmark dynamism. Manufacturing quality is at
The BMW 5 Series G60 is a technological tour de force. If you are targeting a petrol engine, you are making the best possible mechanical choice: the B48 (520i/530i) and B58 (540i) engines have reached a remarkable level of reliability, with their early issues corrected (TU2). The main point of vigilance does not concern the mechanics, but the onboard electronics and the braking system (IBS recall to be checked imperatively). This is a highly recommended purchase, provided that software updates have been carried out.
