BMW Série 5 G30/G31 (2017 – 2023)

Reliability score : 8.2/10

The seventh-generation BMW 5 Series (G30 for the sedan, G31 for the Touring wagon, G38 for the long-wheelbase version in China) marks a technological and qualitative turning point for the Bavarian brand. Based on the modular CLAR platform, it sheds up to 100 kg compared to its predecessor (F10) while integrating advanced semi-autonomous driving assistance technologies. The mid-2020 facelift (LCI - Life Cycle Impulse) modernized the front end, updated the infotainment system (iDrive 7.0), and generalized 48V mild-hybridization across almost all internal combustion engines (especially diesels). 🎯 Verdict

The BMW 5 Series G30/G31 is an exceptional road car that has corrected most of the flaws of the previous generation (F10). For diesels, the 530d is the absolute best buy: it offers sports car performance with city car fuel consumption, and high-level mechanical reliability. However, the purchase of a diesel model (520d or 530d) is strictly conditional on verifying the replacement of the EGR cooler through the official network. Avoid diesel models that have been used exclusively in the city. For low-mileage drivers, the 540i (B58) is a marvel of engineering, while hybrid versions (530e) are only relevant if you can recharge daily. The Touring wagon (G31) is fantastic but requires rigorous inspection of its rear air suspension.
