The BMW 3 Series G20 is arguably the most complete compact executive car of its generation. If you are looking for a diesel, the G20 is a phenomenal choice. The B47 (320d) and B57 (330d) engines have shed the timing chain demons of the past and offer bulletproof bottom ends. However, you must verify that the EGR cooler recall has been performed, as this is the only major Achilles' heel of the diesel lineup. For high-mileage drivers, a 320d or 330d is highly recommended. If your commute is short or strictly urban, avoid the diesel to save the DPF, and opt for the exceptionally reliable 320i/330i (B48) instead. The G20 is a solid, well-built machine that earns a strong 'BUY' recommendation.
