BMW Série 2 U06 Active Tourer (2022 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.2/10

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (U06) represents the second generation of BMW's premium compact MPV. Built on the updated FAAR (Frontantriebsarchitektur) platform, it marks a significant departure from its predecessor (F45) in terms of design, technology, and powertrain efficiency. The U06 introduces the BMW Curved Display with iDrive 8 (later updated to iDrive 9), controversially removing the traditional iDrive rotary controller and physical climate buttons. Mechanically, it exclusively features a 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission across all models—manual gearboxes have been entirely discontinued. The powertrain lineup is heavily electrified, featuring 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology integrated directly into the transmission for the petrol (220i, 223i) and diesel (223d) variant

🎯 Verdict

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (U06) is arguably the best premium compact MPV on the market, largely because it has very few direct competitors left. Mechanically, the petrol engines (B38 and B48) are exceptionally reliable, having benefited from years of refinement by BMW. The 220i is the absolute sweet spot of the range, offering a perfect blend of performance, fuel economy via its 48V system, and lower purchase cost than the 223i. Buyers should be aware of the heavy reliance on touch controls, which can be frustrating, and must ensure that the critical Integrated Braking System (IBS) recall has been performed. If you can accept the firm ride and the screen-heavy ergonomics, it is a highly recommended purchase for families seeking premium practicality without upgrading to a bulkier SUV.
