By embracing its premium positioning, it offers high-level performance, both technologically and mechanically. The reliability of the internal combustion engines (B38, B48, B47) is now excellent, with BMW having capitalized on proven blocks. The only real points of vigilance concern the onboard electronics (early bugs of iDrive 8) and the Continental braking system recall, which must imperatively have been carried out. Buying advice: The 220i (170 hp) version represents the best compromise for versatile family use. High-mileage drivers will still find their happiness with the excellent 218d, while the PHEV (225e/230e) versions are reserved for those who can recharge daily at home or at work.
