The BMW 2 Series Coupe (G42), launched in late 2021, represents a traditionalist approach in BMW's modern lineup. Unlike the 2 Series Gran Coupe (F44) and Active Tourer which utilize a front-wheel-drive architecture, the G42 Coupe remains true to BMW's heritage by using the rear-wheel-drive biased CLAR platform (shared with the 3 Series and 4 Series). It offers exceptional driving dynamics, near 50:50 weight distribution, and a range of highly refined modular engines (B47, B48, B58). The BMW 2 Series G42 is a resounding success in terms of reliability and driving pleasure. By utilizing the proven CLAR platform and the highly mature B-series engines, BMW has created a coupe that suffers from very few 'teething' problems. The M240i is the absolute sweet spot, offering near-M levels of performance with the legendary reliability of the B58 engine. The 220i/230i models are also excellent, lighter on the nose, and perfect for daily driving. If you are buying used, simply ensure the 2024 Integrated Brake recall has been performed. Avoid the 220d if your commute is strictly urban. Overall, it is a highly recommended purchase.
