The BMW 2 Series Coupe (F22) and Convertible (F23) succeeds the 1 Series Coupe/Convertible (E82/E88). Based on a rear-wheel-drive architecture (or xDrive all-wheel drive), it embodies BMW's traditional DNA with ideal weight distribution (50:50) and benchmark dynamism in its category. The model benefited from a facelift (LCI) in July 2017, bringing new LED headlights, a redesigned dashboard, and the latest generation of the iDrive system. Although demand for compact diesel coupes is declining, the 2 Series offered excellent diesel engines (N47 then B47), providing a remarkable compromise between performance and fuel efficiency. Overall reliability is very good, particularly on post-2015 models equipped with modular 'B' series engines.
The BMW 2 Series (F22/F23) is one of the last true compact rear-wheel-drive coupes, offering a rare driving pleasure. If you are looking for a diesel, avoid 2014-early 2015 models equipped with the N47 unless the chain has been replaced with an invoice to prove it. Absolutely prioritize versions equipped with the B47 engine (from mid-2015 onwards): the 220d (190 hp) is the perfect compromise, offering vigorous acceleration for negligible consumption (often under 5.5 L/100 km). Just make sure the EGR cooler recall has been performed. In petrol, the M240i (B58) is a future collector's item, while the 220i/230i (B48) offers excellent everyday versatility.
