BMW iX I (I20) (2021 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.2/10

The BMW iX (code name I20) is the large 100% electric flagship SUV of the Bavarian brand. Based on a specific architecture integrating a lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic structure (Carbon Cage), it stands out with a polarizing but extremely aerodynamic design (Cd of 0.25). Inside, it introduces a very luxurious, minimalist atmosphere, and the iDrive 8 (later 8.5) infotainment system with its large curved display. While it shines with its royal comfort, benchmark soundproofing, and the efficiency of its wound-rotor motors (without rare earths), it suffers from significant weight (over 2.5 tons) and a disappointing trunk volume for its size (500 liters).

🎯 Verdict

The BMW iX is a technological tour de force that offers a driving experience of rare comfort and silence. The xDrive50 version is the optimal choice, offering reassuring real-world range. However, its early life was marked by an impressive number of recalls (software, battery modules, airbags). It is imperative to buy a model with a crystal-clear maintenance and recall history, preferably at a dealership with an extended warranty (BMW Premium Selection).
