Audi Q7 4L (2005–2015) (2005 – 2015)

Reliability score : 6.5/10

The first-generation Audi Q7 (code name 4L) marked Audi's triumphant entry into the luxury SUV segment. Based on the PL71 platform shared with the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, it stands out with its imposing size (over 5 meters), its ability to carry 7 people, and its luxurious interior. Initially launched with large V8 engines (petrol and diesel) and the 3.0 TDI V6, it underwent a major facelift in 2009 (Phase 2) bringing LED lights, an updated MMI system, and most notably, a revamp of the engine range with the introduction of the supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 and the 8-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox (replacing the 6-speed Tiptronic). Although the European market favored diesel, petrol engines (FSI and TFSI) are crucial, particularly in North America, the Middle East, and Asia. I

🎯 Verdict

The Audi Q7 4L is a formidable highway cruiser and a luxurious family vehicle. However, its enormous weight and technical complexity make it a very expensive vehicle to maintain today. If you are looking for a petrol engine, AVOID the 4.2 FSI V8 whose timing chain problems can ruin the experience. Opt for a facelifted model (post-2010) equipped with the 3.0 TFSI V6: it offers the best compromise between performance, reliability, and modernity (8-speed gearbox). The purchase must imperatively be accompanied by a complete service history and a meticulous inspection of the air suspension and water drains.
