Audi Q5 II (FY) (2017 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.5/10

The second-generation Audi Q5 (Type FY) is based on the Volkswagen Group's modular MLB Evo platform. Launched in 2017 and facelifted in late 2020 (new OLED light signature, abandonment of the MMI rotary controller for a fully tactile interface), it stands out as one of the most well-rounded premium SUVs on the market. Although Europe long favored diesel (TDI), petrol (TFSI) and plug-in hybrid (TFSI e) powertrains have taken over, driven by significantly improved reliability compared to the previous generation. The interior is near perfection in terms of assembly, and acoustic comfort is top-notch. It is a mature vehicle, whose EA888 (4-cylinder) and EA839 (V6) petrol engines offer an excellent compromise between driving pleasure and durability, provided rigorous maintenance is followed.

🎯 Verdict

The Audi Q5 II (FY) is an extremely solid choice on the used car market, particularly with petrol (TFSI) engines. Audi has corrected past errors: the 2.0 TFSI has become one of the most reliable engines in its category, no longer suffering from excessive oil consumption. The SQ5's 3.0 V6 TFSI is a delight, but requires avoiding 2017-2018 model years or ensuring that the rocker arms have been inspected. Plug-in hybrid versions are fiscally relevant but add a layer of electronic complexity. For a worry-free purchase, opt for a post-2019 45 TFSI with a clear service history, especially regarding the S tronic gearbox.
