The second-generation Audi Q3 (Type F3) is based on Volkswagen Group's modular MQB A2 platform. Longer, wider, and significantly more spacious than its predecessor (8U), it corrects the main flaw of the first generation: the lack of space inside and in the trunk. Positioned as a premium compact SUV, it makes a major technological leap with the standard integration of the Virtual Cockpit and a tactile MMI interface. Although market trends are shifting towards hybridization and gasoline, diesel engines (TDI) remain a pillar of the range for high-mileage drivers. Equipped with the 2.0 TDI (EA288 Evo) block, the Q3 F3 offers excellent fuel efficiency on the highway, although these engines are penalized in strictly urban use by the complexity of their emission control systems (DPF, SCR/AdBlue).
The Audi Q3 (F3) is a mature, comfortable, and appealing compact SUV. Regarding diesel engines (35 and 40 TDI), the verdict is clear: these are excellent choices for high-mileage drivers covering more than 20,000 km per year, mainly on highways. Under these conditions, the 2.0 TDI proves to be indestructible and extremely frugal. However, if your use is mainly urban or suburban, avoid diesel. Failures related to clogging (DPF, EGR) and especially AdBlue system malfunctions (crystallization) will turn the experience into a financial nightmare. For mixed use, the 35 TFSI (1.5 gasoline) is the most rational and reliable choice in the range.
