Audi A4 B8 (8K) (2007 – 2015)

Reliability score : 6.8/10

The Audi A4 B8 (Typ 8K) represents a significant leap forward for the A4 lineage. Built on the MLB (Modular Longitudinal Matrix) platform, it pushed the engine further back, drastically improving weight distribution and reducing the understeer characteristic of previous generations. Available as a Sedan, Avant (estate), and Allroad, the B8 offers premium build quality, advanced technology for its time, and the legendary Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Facelift (B8.5 - 2012): The mid-cycle refresh introduced in late 2011 (Model Year 2012) is crucial. It brought updated styling, improved infotainment (MMI 3G+), and most importantly, major mechanical revisions to the problematic petrol engines (transitioning to EA888 Gen 3) and steering systems (switching to electromechanical). 🎯 Verdict

The Audi A4 B8 is a tale of two cars. If you are looking at a pre-facelift (2008-2011) 1.8 or 2.0 TFSI, you must proceed with extreme caution. Unless the seller provides official Audi documentation proving the engine was rebuilt (new piston rings/rods) and the timing chain tensioner updated, AVOID IT. However, the facelifted B8.5 (2012-2015) is a fantastic, reliable premium car. The updated EA888 Gen 3 petrol engines are robust, and the 3.0 TFSI (S4) is a masterpiece. Diesel variants are generally solid workhorses, provided they are used for long distances to keep the DPF clean. Always favor a manual gearbox or the Tiptronic/S tronic over the fragile Multitronic CVT.
