Audi A4 B8 (8K) (2007 – 2015)

Reliability score : 6.8/10

The Audi A4 B8 (internal code name 8K) marks a major turning point for the family car with the rings. Based on the new modular longitudinal platform (MLB), it moves its front axle forward to reduce the overhang, significantly improving weight distribution and dynamism compared to the B7 generation. Available as a sedan, wagon (Avant), and all-road (Allroad), it benefited from a significant restyling (facelift 'B8.5') at the end of 2011 (model year 2012), introducing electromechanical steering, an MMI system update, and, most importantly, the correction of major engine defects. While the diesel (TDI) versions are the most common and generally durable, the first phase (2007-2011) is marred by catastrophic reliability problems with the TFSI petrol engines (excessive oil consumption, timing ch

🎯 Verdict

The Audi A4 B8 is a car with two faces. If you are looking for a petrol model from before 2012, run away unless the engine has been completely rebuilt by Audi. On the other hand, for high-mileage drivers, the diesel (TDI) versions offer an excellent compromise between performance, consumption, and longevity, provided maintenance is rigorous. The most rational and reliable choice is a 2.0 TDI (150 or 190 hp) with a manual gearbox from phase 2 (2012-2015). For pleasure, a V6 3.0 TDI Quattro or a 3.0 TFSI (S4) will satisfy you, but plan for a significant maintenance budget. Absolutely avoid the Multitronic gearbox.
