Audi A3 8Y (2020 – 2025)

Reliability score : 8.4/10

The fourth-generation Audi A3 (code name 8Y) is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB Evo platform. Launched in 2020 and facelifted in 2024, it marks a technological shift with the massive introduction of digital features (MIB3 system) and mild hybridization (MHEV). Although the market is moving towards gasoline and hybrid, this report places particular emphasis on the Diesel (TDI) offering. Equipped with the 2.0 TDI engine from the EA288 evo family, the A3 8Y benefits from the Twin-Dosing system (double AdBlue injection), which makes it extremely clean and remarkably efficient for high-mileage drivers. While the perceived quality of some interior plastics has slightly decreased compared to the 8V generation, road handling and sound insulation remain at the top of the premium category.

✅ Strengths

⚠️ Weaknesses

🎯 Verdict

The Audi A3 8Y is a well-developed premium compact, whose main weakness lies in the software bugs of its first years of production (2020-2022). If you are looking for a Diesel, the 2.0 TDI (EA288 evo) is a masterpiece of efficiency. It offers superior driving pleasure, negligible fuel consumption on the highway, and very high mechanical reliability thanks to the correction of defects from older generations (notably via Twin-Dosing). Prioritize a 35 TDI (150 hp) model from after 2022, whose electronics will have been stabilized, and ensure that its past use corresponds to a 'high-mileage driver' profile to avoid a clogged DPF.
