Reliability score : 8.2/10

The third-generation Audi A3 (Type 8V) marked a major turning point for the Volkswagen Group by introducing the modular MQB platform. 🎯 Verdict

The Audi A3 8V is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished premium compacts of its decade. If you're targeting a diesel, the 2.0 TDI (150 or 184 hp) is the preferred choice: it erases the flaws of the old generation, offers superior driving pleasure, and proves very robust provided you monitor the cooling system (water pump, silicate reservoir). The 1.6 TDI should be approached with more caution, especially if it's paired with the S tronic 7 gearbox (DQ200), whose erratic reliability can lead to exorbitant costs. Regardless of the engine, avoid examples that have been used exclusively in the city or whose maintenance history (especially DSG/S tronic gearbox oil changes) is incomplete.
