Audi A2 I (8Z) (1999 – 2005)

Reliability score : 7.8/10

The Audi A2 (Generation I, type 8Z) is an avant-garde premium city car that left its mark on its era. Designed around ASF (Audi Space Frame) technology, it features an entirely aluminum body and chassis, making it immune to rust and extremely lightweight (around 900 to 1,000 kg depending on the version). Its exceptional aerodynamics (Cd of 0.25 to 0.28) and remarkable roominess for its size (3.82 m) make it a brilliantly engineered vehicle. Although it experienced mixed commercial success due to its high selling price at the time, it is highly sought after on the used market today (youngtimer status). This report focuses particularly on the diesel engines (TDI with unit injectors), which accounted for the majority of sales and perfectly matched the model's fuel economy philosophy.
