Alfa Romeo Giulietta I phase 2 (940) (2014 – 2020)

Reliability score : 8.2/10

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta (Type 940) received a first facelift in late 2013 (marketed in 2014, known as Phase 2) and a second in 2016 (Phase 3). These updates corrected the early flaws of Phase 1 (2010-2013). Phase 2 brought improved soundproofing, new seats, the integration of the Uconnect multimedia system, and revised engines for the Euro 6 standard. Phase 3 (2016) harmonized the design with the new Giulia (honeycomb grille, revised lettering) and renamed the Quadrifoglio Verde version to 'Veloce'. Although its overall design began to show its age towards the end of its career, the Giulietta Phase 2/3 remains a compact car with very engaging dynamic handling and generally very satisfactory mechanical reliability, particularly with the T-Jet and JTDM engines.

🎯 Verdict

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Phase 2 (and 3) is an excellent used car choice for those looking for a compact with assertive styling and dynamic handling. Contrary to brand clichés, its mechanical reliability is very good, especially for the T-Jet and JTDM diesel engines. Problems are mostly peripheral (tailgate wiring harness, interior door handles, cabin noises). For a worry-free purchase, opt for a 1.4 T-Jet 120 hp petrol (simple and indestructible) or a 2.0 JTDM 150 hp for high-mileage drivers. MultiAir versions and the TCT gearbox are pleasant but require a clear and rigorous maintenance history.
