Alfa Romeo 147 I phase 2 (937) (2004 – 2010)

Reliability score : 7.2/10

The Alfa Romeo 147 Phase 2 (Type 937) was restyled in late 2004 by Giorgetto Giugiaro, abandoning Walter de Silva's original lines for a more aggressive front end, inspired by the 159. A premium compact ahead of its time, it stands out for its exceptional road handling thanks to its double wishbone front axle. While interior finish improved with the restyling, the 147 remains a demanding car in terms of maintenance. On the used car market, diesel engines (JTD and JTDM) are the most common and, paradoxically, often more robust than the Twin Spark petrol units, provided that emission control peripherals and the intake system are monitored. The Q2 version (Torsen limited-slip differential) which appeared in 2006 is particularly sought after for its traction and the robustness of its transmiss

🎯 Verdict

The Alfa Romeo 147 Phase 2 is a compact for enthusiasts. If you're looking for a low-maintenance daily driver, look elsewhere. However, if you love to drive, it offers a rare road feel. For diesel, opt for the 1.9 JTDm 8v (120 hp) for maximum reliability at a lower cost. If you choose the 1.9 JTDM 16v (150 hp), imperatively ensure that the intake manifold flap issue has been resolved, otherwise, engine failure is a risk. Q2 or Ducati Corse versions are future collectors. Plan for a regular budget for the running gear (wishbones) and avoid Selespeed gearboxes.
