Opel Insignia B (2017 – 2023)

Reliability score : 7.4/10

Opel / Vauxhall Insignia B (2017-2022) The Insignia B (sold as Vauxhall Insignia in the UK, Holden Commodore ZB in Australasia, and Buick Regal in North America/China) is a D-segment family/executive car. Built on GM's E2XX platform, it is notably lighter (up to 175 kg) and more agile than its heavy predecessor (Insignia A). It represents the final Opel model developed entirely under General Motors before the PSA (now Stellantis) takeover. Available as a Grand Sport (fastback/hatch) and Sports Tourer (estate), it offers excellent highway cruising capabilities, a spacious cabin, and strong value for money. A facelift was introduced in 2020, bringing revised styling, updated infotainment, and a completely new range of GM-developed 3- and 4-cylinder engines to meet stricter Euro 6d emissions

🎯 Verdict

The Opel Insignia B is a highly underrated, comfortable, and spacious cruiser that offers tremendous value on the used market. However, engine choice is critical. For Diesel Buyers: Avoid the 1.6 CDTi unless you have proof of a recent timing chain replacement. The pre-facelift 2.0 CDTi (170 hp) is a much better engine mechanically, but you must budget for potential AdBlue system failures. The post-2020 facelift diesels (1.5D and 2.0D) are generally more reliable regarding emissions equipment. Overall: Buy a 2.0-litre diesel for heavy highway use, or a 2.0-litre petrol for lower mileage. Always check the functionality of the Matrix LED headlights and ensure the car has a full service history. Negotiate hard on pre-facelift diesels.
