🎯 Verdict

The second-generation Hyundai Kona (SX2) is a highly accomplished crossover that fixes almost all the shortcomings of its predecessor—namely, rear passenger space and cargo capacity. From a reliability standpoint, Hyundai's decision to use mature 'Smartstream' powertrains is a massive plus. For petrol buyers, the 1.6 T-GDI paired with the 8-speed automatic (available in North America, Korea, and Australia) is the absolute sweet spot, offering great power without the quirks of a dual-clutch transmission. European buyers looking for petrol should strongly consider the 1.6 HEV, which is incredibly efficient and uses a proven, bulletproof hybrid system. The 1.0 T-GDI is adequate but works hard to move the larger SX2 body. Overall, it is a highly recommended purchase with very few red flags.
